PHOTOGRAPHER BOB POE ANNOUNCES JUNE EXHIBIT OF
iPHONE PHOTOGRAPHY

“Eye Photo” features over 20 photographs of the human eye

SANTA MONICA, Calif.— Photographer Bob Poe will be holding an opening for his latest work Saturday, June 19, from 6:00-9:00p.m. at Bob Poe Gallery at Bergamot Station. Titled “Eye Photo,” Poe presents the photography he creates exclusively through his iPhone, and explores the human eye in a series of intimate portraits.

Using the eyes of friends, acquaintances and complete strangers, “Eye Photo” explores the ambiguous nature of the human eye, when isolated in a single photograph. While many consider the eye to be the most expressive part of the human body, the lack of context in the solitary eye offers anonymity and intrigue. The work also displays large-scale reproductions of the eye, which provides additional richness and depth.

“Each of my exhibitions begins with a curiosity about a theme or object, usually come across by accident” said Poe. “This exhibition is no exception, as the photographs of eyes grew from a casual project to a deeper analysis of emotion, deception and identity.”

In addition to a career in photography, Poe is active in business, politics, media and marketing. In addition to his artistic endeavors, Bob is president of Emergency Communications Network, Inc. Prior to that, Bob was Chairman of the Democratic Party in Florida during Bush v. Gore in 2000, and worked to address and settle the disputes that occurred throughout the legal debate regarding the election and recount. Due to his background in creative fields and his drive to discover and imaginatively use innovative products, Poe began experimenting with iPhone photography. His photographs sparked interest from collectors, and in 2009 he leased gallery space at Bergamot Station in Santa Monica in order to professionally exhibit his work.

Adding a layer of mystery to the photos, Poe offers an amusing fact about the work. “Of all the photographs of eyes that I shot for this exhibition, one is non-human,” said Poe. “The fun is going to be the inevitable guessing game for the viewer.”
